Our letter to investors in Brazil : Change in Visa fees
March 14, 2016

Dear Entrepreneurs, Dear Investors,
You who love Brazil and its infinite opportunities.
You would like to open a posada in Northeastern Brazil? Launch an app in São Paulo? You must first be aware of updates concerning your investor´s VISA.
Brazil recently increased the entry fee to obtain the resident status as an investor (Visto permanente VIPER Investidor Estrangeiro).
Whereas you previously needed to invest a minimum of R$ 150 000 (close to 37 000 Euros*), you now must invest R$ 500 000 minimum (124 000 Euros*), starting in March 2016, to be considered an investor in Brazil.
The fee has thus more than tripled!
However if you wish to invest in new technologies or create your startup company, the initial R$ 150 000 investment is maintained if the investment is made for a scientific activity, innovation or research.
In order to do so, you must comply with at least one of these five criteria:
Have received help, resources, or an contribution from a governmental institution
Being implemented in a technological park
Have been or being developed by a startup studio
Have been a finalist in a startup development program by the state
Have benefited from a startup incubator in Brazil
These are the main changes you must take into account, but bear in mind that Brazilian authorities are always very careful with your potential results and recruitment in Brazil before allowing the investor´s VISA.
You will have to submit an investment plan or the proof of an investment in a local firm (or in a future company) in foreign currency.
You can find the list of documents to be filled (and to provide to the authorities) bellow:
http://cgparis.itamaraty.gov.br/fr/viper2
Once you have the investor VISA, your first stay in Brazil will last a maximum of 3 years.
As time flies really fast, especially in Brazil, do not forget to renew your VISA at the Policia Federal way before the end of your Visa’s expiry date!
We hope this article lightens your questions about the Investor´s VISA in Brazil.
Best regards.
