Daycare or Nanny : What's the Best Option for Your Child in Brazil
June 9, 2015
My Little Brasil has done research for you on the different types of care available for your child in Brazil. For kids who aren’t old enough to go to school yet, your options are limited : it’s either daycare or a nanny. Don’t count on Au Pairs, childminders or shared nannies because these are not (yet) part of the universe of possibilities.
Baby sitter or daycare : what costs less in Brazil ?
You may be tempted to compare the price of a nanny with that of daycare but then you may not consider other important factors like trust, flexibility and your confidence with your choice.
Even if cost isn’t the only factor knowing the different prices will help you make your choice. To get a better idea, do your calculations based on a whole year and not just one month.
Making your choice
The decision to put your kid in daycare (creche in Portuguese) or to hire a baby sitter (baba in Portuguese) is very personal. What works for one family won’t necessarily work for another. It also depends on the baby sitter you hire and the daycare you find.
Remember that just because one place or one nanny doesn’t work for you does not mean that none of them will. You may have to try a second nanny or a second daycare where your child will fit in better. Sometimes it’s even just a question of time while your kid because more comfortable and more mature.
You also have to consider other factors that aren’t always quantifiable. For example, if you have several children, the eldest child may be able to help a nanny out.
If you have more than one kid, putting them all in the same school may allow you to benefit from some type of discount. And by having several kids in one school you can save on uniforms and other school expenses!
So to give you an idea, a nanny in Brazil costs how much?
And if I want to enroll my child in daycare in Brazil, will it be expensive?
